Off the beaten path.....
Any customer that has used the Tours de Sport website to build vacation quotes through the online reservation system has no doubt found countless options for condominiums and townhouses located at all of our New England ski resorts. While these large units are a fantastic option for many groups and larger families, most condominiums are not very economical for couples or smaller families looking to save money during busy ski weekends. In most cases, the New England resorts each have just one full-service hotel on the mountain to offer guests. Unfortunately, these properties (Jackson Gore, Killington Grand, Jordan Grand, Mountain Club on Loon, etc.) are often priced above the budget range of many people. Travelers who don’t mind staying a mile or two off the mountain can find some great values with smaller boutique hotels. Furthermore, these smaller properties offer much more charm than a simple condominium complex, and each of these hotels offers something a little unique that can separate them from the run-of-the-mill chain hotel. In Killington, our most popular destination, there are two properties, the Mountain Inn and the North Star Lodge, that offer a rare treat: an outdoor heated pool open all winter long. Another Killington hotel, the Inn of the Six Mountains, offers delectable options in the Cedars restaurant, and also has a message therapist on-sight. Down the road at Mount Snow, the Doveberry Inn is just two miles from the lifts, but offers twelve guest rooms that each has their own unique charm and appeal. The hotel also offers some of the best dining in the area, specializing in northern Italian cuisine. Heading north, the Powder Hound Inn near Sugarbush is one of the few New England properties that allows pets, while still offering condominium-style accomodations. In Nearby Stowe, there are a number of properties offering charm and convenience. The Stowe Inn is within walking distance to the town of Stowe, offering travelers a number of entertainment and shopping options without having to trek back towards the resort. Over in New Hampshire, the Green Granite Inn is a very popular family spot that is located very close to the North Conway outlet shopping center. Finally, each of the two Maine resorts, Sunday River and Sugarloaf, offer an economical option for couples and small groups seeking a quick weekend getaway. The Snow Cap Inn at Sunday River and the Sugarloaf Inn are both ideal locations throughout the season.
Mid-Week Getaways
Tried to get reservations at your favorite ski resort for the upcoming February vacation? Tried to get reservations on any weekend? Having trouble finding space? Having trouble with the budget? Why not try a midweek trip? Take a couple of personal days from work (go ahead, everybody does it from time to time.) Get your significant other or a couple of friends and take off.
Here’s what you’ll find: the same number of open trails, the same grooming operations, the same restaurants and other amenities and no people (or very few). You will get the same number of runs in before lunch on the typical weekday as you can on the typical weekend day. All day! You can ski on well groomed trails all day. No scratchy (icy) patches in the afternoon. And imagine waking up on a Tuesday or Wednesday morning with a fresh snowfall and no crowds.
Ski resorts and lodging properties are always looking for folks to visit during the week. As a result, you can get some great deals on midweek ski & stay packages. Check out the featured hot deals at our web site: http://www.toursdesport.com/ or give us a call and let Tours De Sport design a trip based on your specifications.
The two snowiest months of the winter, February and March, are upon us. There is plenty of good skiing ahead and the days are getting longer & warmer so get caught up on your work, make up a good excuse for the boss (a sick relative has always worked for me) line up the baby sitter, give us a call & we’ll take care of the rest.
