Sun Peaks , Canada

Three mountains of dry powder snow, almost 200 days of sunshine, 11 lifts that could accommodate up to twelve thousand riders per hour – YES, TWELVE THOUSAND. PER HOUR. These are just some of the many things that the Sun Peaks Ski Resort boasts of. Yes, that, and an Olympian for a skiing director.

The Sun Peaks is a mountain resort 50 kilometers northeast of Kamloops in British Columbia. A great outdoors spectacle during the summer, the mountain turns into a ski paradise come the colder months.

The Figures
Sun Peak's total area spans three mountains: the Tod Mountain, the Sundance Mounain, and Mt. Morrisey.

The mountain resort spans 3,768 acres of skiable terrain, with a vertical drop of 881 meters from the tallest mountain. This is divided into 122 runs with 12 gladed areas and 40 kilometers of cross country trails. 9 acres of its total skiable area is dedicated to boarders, with three different ability zones. It receives an average of 220 inches of dry powder snow annually.

The Activities
Apart from skiing and snowboarding, guests can enjoy mountainfuls of other things on the resort. Sun Peaks offers its guests every fun activity imaginable on the slopes. Understandably, it has three thousand acres. It would be a shame and a total waste to not make use of it in fun and adventurous ways. Guests can choose from Helicopter tours to Bungee trampoline, Nordic and Crosscountry skiing, Cat Trax Groomer Rides, The more romantic ones may fancy the dogsledding tours and rides around the slopes in horse-drawn sleighs. They could step it up a bit further, too, with fondue dinners on the mountains.

The Olympian
While other ski vacation destinations could offer what has been mentioned earlier, or top Sun Peaks on size, they cannot top this: SKI WITH AN OLYMPIAN.
Nancy Greene, the famed Olympian and Canadian Senator, makes her winter residence hereabouts. She also happens to be the Director of Skiing of Sun Peaks. On lucky days, visiting skiers may find the lady of the ice hitting the slopes and she would be more than glad to ski with them. The lady does not mind what skill level her ski-mates are on! It is always between the skis and the snow and love for the sport – nothing else.

All that, not to mention the unmatched scenery of a winter outback paradise in British Columbia combine to make the Sun Peaks Ski Resort amongst the best ones in North America. At Sun Peaks, guests do not only get to take a “peek” of what fun in skiing and on the slopes is. They get to experience and make memories out of it too. This is one Canadian ski vacation destination that must top the list of must-see's and must-try's.
